PROJECT LAUNCH: STRENGTHENING SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURAL PRACTICES FOR THE PROTECTION

OF THE YOTO RIVER BANKS IN THE KPEDOME CANTON

The Christian Alliance for Integral Development (ACDI) officially launched a project on Thursday, May 21, 2026,

to strengthen sustainable agricultural practices for the preservation of the Yoto River banks in the Kpédomé canton.

This project, funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP),

covers the localities of Gada-kopé, Abala-kopé, Fadacopé, and Kodjocopé in the canton.

It includes the restoration of the riverbanks, capacity building for producers through the promotion of agroecological practices,

and the diversification of household income sources through the development of small ruminant livestock farming.

Participating in the ceremony were the Prefectural Director of the Environment for Haho, Commander BIGALABOU Essobaolou; the representative of ICAT Haho,

Dr. MLAGA Kodjo Gnatépé; the First Deputy Mayor of Haho 3, representing Mayor AMOUDJI Komlan and Prefect GNAKOU Aloégnim;

Mr. LAMBONI Denis, representative of ICAT; and the Chief of the Kpédomé Canton, Togbui AJAVON Aboua.

They unanimously welcomed this initiative, which aligns with Togo’s 2030 Agricultural Policy (PAT 2030).

The ceremony was marked by the symbolic planting of seedlings, an act that officially launched the project.

Expected results include increased adoption of sustainable practices by 300 producers, planting of 10,000 local plants,

ecological stabilization of riverbanks, economic empowerment of 120 vulnerable households and increased resilience to climate shocks.
